It's finally happening!
Since it's inception in 2006, Back to Your Roots Soil Solutions Inc. has been promoting concepts in soil health and plant productivity. Our work and programs are based on the life work and research of Dr. Carey Reams, Dr. Elaine Ingham, Steve Westin and others as a proven way to produce healthier, nutrient dense food for human and livestock consumption. Market gardeners, forage growers, conventional crop producers, organic food producers, fruit growers and personal use gardeners alike will benefit from the combined knowledge of Back to Your Roots, High Brix Manufacturing of Leduc, Alberta and Sustainable Soil Solutions of Vulcan, Alberta and a large network of likeminded people from around the world. We are growing FOOD, after all!
Finally there is rumour that others in the industry in Western Canada are starting to focus more on some of the soil and plant qualities we have been promoting. The December 30, 2010 issue of the The Western Producer focused on the soil and how it works. Not just one article in the paper, but the whole edition. Recently there has been rumor that Nutrient Density is becoming a quality that is gaining interest and credibility. Nutrient density is now the goal! This news is very refreshing. We look forward to partnerships that may come from this increased interest.
Back to Your Roots programs start with the soil. The primary need for creating aerobic zones, use of minimal tillage, and creating a general soil environment that allows for the growth and diversity of biology is the basis for improved plant health. Healthy soil will produce healthy plants, which will result in healthy people. We measure the effectiveness of the plant photosynthesis and mineral density with a refractometer and refer to the results as degrees of BRIX. Brix readings are an easy, effective way to measure plant health, without huge expense or effort. No longer are BRIX just something you build houses with.
Understanding top quality food production is not as easy as showing up to a seminar and following the crowd. Producers need to think about and understand the unique interactions that occur - in the soil and with the soil sciences. It's no longer a "pour and pray" situation. Hard-earned dollars spent on products and equipment that don't have a positive effect on the Brix levels and soil conditions are wasted.
We are on the road again and invite you along, with your neighbors, to come and hear about what we are doing. Greg Moline CEO of High Brix Manufacturing will be in attendance at each meeting. We will explain the programs and theories we promote and also examine the pitfalls that will hinder producers from reaching their full potential. View dates, times and locations of upcoming meetings. All meetings start at 1:00pm and end by 4:00pm.
